Shion Ota is one of the most promising Japanese pianists. She has won numerous competitions in Japan since she was a child, including 5th prize and the Most Promising Artist prize at the 2013 Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition. She won the the Noel Mewton-Wood sixth prize at the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2021, the third prize at the Sendai International Music Competition, the first prize at the Coimbra World Piano Meeting in 2022, and the first prize and Audience prize at the Concours international de piano de Saint Paul Trois in 2024. In 2023, she gave a highly acclaimed solo recital on the theme of J.S.Bach/BACH and was selected for the Aoyama Music Newcomer Award.
Due to health reasons the candidates Shotaro Nishimura and Zixi Chen could not participate in the GPP 2022. They received the possibility to participate in this edition.
