Born in Korea, Jun Hwi Cho studied at the National Institute of Gifted Education until his early teens and won many awards in his home country. Then in autumn 2012, he moved to the USA and began a new musical journey while attending The Juilliard School. He won first prize in both the New York Concour and began performing regularly in the United States until now. The Washington Post evaluated Cho's Philips collection recital as follows: "Cho's rhythm control is admirable. The pianist showed a mature drama and timing that projected clarity in thunderstorms and freely traversed music." Presently, Jun Hwi graduated from the Juilliard School (BM/MM) under the guidance of Emanuel Ax and Matti Raekallio and studying at Yale School of Music (MMA) with Boris Slutsky.
Due to health reasons the candidates Shotaro Nishimura and Zixi Chen could not participate in the GPP 2022. They received the possibility to participate in this edition.
