Biography

Fountos started taking piano lessons at the age of 5 and at age 17 he debuted as soloist with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. A year later, he moved to London for further piano studies where he eventually graduated with a BMus, MMus & Artist Diploma with full marks and numerous prizes, having studied with full scholarship. Ever since, he remains active as soloist with recent performances of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos nos. 1, 2 & 3, Tchaikovsky 1, Prokofiev 3, Ravel in G among others and he follows a busy concert schedule as the pianist of the Waldstein Trio (performances at Musikverein-Brahms Saal, Beethoven's House-Bonn and in Europe). He is currently a Carne Junior Fellow at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and a Silver Medal recipient & Young Artist of The Musicians' Company, City of London.

 

Due to health reasons the candidates Shotaro Nishimura and Zixi Chen could not participate in the GPP 2022. They received the possibility to participate in this edition.
