Biography

Isak Choi, a 20-year-old pianist from Pohang, began piano lessons under his mother and later studied under the guidance of pianist Julius-Jeongwon Kim. In 2023, he won the top prize at the prestigious Central Music Competition in South Korea. His international successes include winning the 5th Ishikawa International Piano Competition in Japan and achieving finalist status at the Busoni International Piano Competition in Italy and the ARD Munich International Music Competition. Isak has also performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Symphony Orchestra and given recitals in European cities such as Brescia, Szczecin, and Vienna. Currently receiving private tutelage from Julius-Jeongwon Kim, Isak continues to actively perform while being homeschooled.

 

Due to health reasons the candidates Shotaro Nishimura and Zixi Chen could not participate in the GPP 2022. They received the possibility to participate in this edition.
